Submarine Delivery | Henken [Baseball Pitching Lab Japan]

Submarine Delivery

The submarine delivery, also known as a submarine pitching style, is a motion in which the pitcher lowers their body and releases the ball from a point very close to the ground.
While velocity is significantly lower than other pitching styles, its unique release point, rhythm, and relative rarity make it highly valuable.
Since it is difficult to overpower hitters with velocity, pitchers rely on unusual pitch movement and a wide variety of pitching techniques to keep hitters off balance.

Breaking Balls from a Submarine Delivery

With a submarine delivery, even the fastball itself often gives hitters the impression of a breaking pitch.
The rising trajectory from a low release point creates a completely different visual effect compared to other pitching styles.
This applies not only to the fastball but also to other pitches.
Curveballs, sliders, and sinkers can all be effective weapons.
Similar to the sidearm delivery, the forkball is generally difficult to throw from this arm slot.
