In 2021, Fujinami spoke of his hope to challenge MLB.
As a high school student he was rated alongside Otani.
Fujinami, who is the same age as Shohei Ohtani, said he is inspired by Ohtani, Darvish, and others.
Fujinami wanted to help the Hanshin Tigers win the championship, but he hoped to transfer to MLB through the posting system in the off-season of 2022.
The Hanshin Tigers agreed, and Fujinami's move to MLB moved forward.
Despite his poor performance in recent years, he was able to sign a one-year contract with the Oakland Athletics.

Fujinami's Playing Style

Fujinami throws a four-seam with a 96-97 mph average from three quarters. The highest is 100.7 mph.
Fujinami builds his pitching mainly with a four-seam and a slider. He used to throw a lot of cutters averaging 87 mph, but in recent years he has started throwing more splits averaging 90 mph. He also throws a slight curve and two-seam.
Fujinami has very poor control of his pitches. Not only does he walk many batters, but he also has a lot of hit-by-pitches.
He was once suspected of having the yips. However, it was ultimately determined to be a lack of technique. Opposing teams may line up left-handed hitters to avoid danger.
